Itroduction:
Hypothyroidism is just among the common health problems
that pregnant women may suffer from. It is an endocrine disorder which happens
when the thyroid gland produces insufficient amount of thyroid hormones. Once
there is an insufficient supply of thyroid hormones, certain body hormones also
drop gradually, resulting to hypothyroidism.
According
to studies, more than four percent of pregnant women were diagnosed with
hypothyroidism. However, there are still women who were undiagnosed because
they were just thinking that the signs and symptoms they are experiencing are
just normal for pregnancy.
There
are women who are already aware of their thyroid problems prior to being
pregnant. However, there are also some who have just developed their thyroid
problems during the course of their pregnancy. Either way, it is important that
thyroid problems be treated during pregnancy not only for the benefit of the
mother but most especially for the safety of the unborn baby as well.
